REHABILITATION EXPERTISE
Nightingale provides home and community based rehabilitation
support services designed to meet your individual requirements.
There has been growing awareness that the home, workplace and
community in general are the ideal places for successful
rehabilitation. Nightingale's rehab services were developed to
reflect this and offer an alternative to clinical or
institutional environments. Our knowledgeable, competent
caregivers implement rehab programs developed by therapeutic
professionals; our role is to complement and reinforce these
professional services.
Our staff is experienced in implementing cognitive
rehabilitation programs, behaviour management programs,
occupational recovery and functional recovery programs.
The complexity of an individual's care traditionally involved
several caregivers, each addressing a specific need. But now a
multi-skilled caregiver can meet a client's many needs, reducing
the number of people involved and allowing the client to manage
cost more effectively. This allows for continuity of care as a
client's needs change.
Nightingale caregivers specialize in care for the brain injured
and clients with catastrophic and soft tissue injuries.
Brain Injury
These clients usually require someone who can implement
cognitive, behaviour management and exercise programs, as well
as provide life skills coaching and reinforce learned
occupational skills. In addition, our staff person may have to
assist with homemaking activities, provide personal care, and
assist with social and recreational activities.
Catastrophic Care
Frequently a caregiver is needed who can provide attendant care,
homemaking, help with an exercise program, escort to
appointments and assist with social and recreational
activities—even child care.
Soft Tissue Injury
Often these clients require short term assistance with personal
care and homemaking activities. Our caregivers understand that
improving client motivation is an important part of their role
and encourage clients to return to various activities as their
injuries heal.

In addition, Nightingale is continually developing
specialized services to meet the challenges of community
health care.
Palliative Care
Never is the need greater for experienced, sensitive
caregiving. For those clients who choose to remain at home
throughout their illness, we have a team of uniquely
qualified professionals—from specialized nurses to
homemakers—who provide intensive care, comfort care and
support services.
Shared Care
This service is appropriate for individuals in chronic care
facilities and seniors’ residences. Our specially trained
caregiver attends to several clients in one building. This
arrangement allows for flexible, affordable assistance for
daily, weekly or even occasional visits.
Respite Care
Sometimes a family member or primary caregiver needs
temporary relief but wants the client to remain at home. For
many families, in-home respite care is the answer. It's
particularly appropriate for people with cognitive disorders
who may become disoriented in non-familiar surroundings.
Infant and Child Care
For emergencies, or as an ongoing arrangement, Nightingale
can provide you with expert child care. When children have
special needs, our professionals are supportive and
understanding. They have experience with newborns, as well
as autistic, physically challenged or chronically ill
children.
 COMPANION
SERVICES
Nightingale's companions provide specialized
assistance for individuals who want the comfort and dignity
of remaining at home.
The elderly, chronically ill and physically or mentally
challenged require different levels of care at different
times. Our companions are a suitable option for clients
wishing to remain in their home, comforted and reassured by
familiar surroundings. We understand that maintaining a
clean, well ordered living environment contributes to a
client's overall health and well being.
The companion will assist the client in all activities of
daily living, including:
Personal Care
meal preparation
laundry and light housekeeping
escort for medical and professional appointments
coordination of home maintenance services
Nightingale provides companions in two ways--on a referral
fee or an agency hire basis. In addition, companions can
either live in your home or visit daily.
Referral Fee
Whether the companion lives in or out, this option is only
suitable for clients willing to handle the paperwork
involved with having an employee. We will send you screened,
qualified applicants, and you will have an opportunity to
interview them, select an appropriate candidate, and
negotiate a salary and terms of employment. After you make
your decision, Nightingale will provide a contract and
guarantee. It is important to note that the companion
becomes the client's employee. Salaries usually range
between $1,200 and $1,800 per month.
Experienced companions normally work a five-day week, with
evenings and weekends off. Therefore, this referral fee
method is appropriate for clients with family members or
friends available to provide relief for the companion.
Agency Hire
For clients needing 24 hour a day care, hiring Nightingale
directly is preferable. We guarantee round the clock service
and divide the care between two companions--one during the
week and another during the weekend. If for any reason both
companions need relief, we assign a qualified replacement
without any disruption of service.
Another advantage of dealing directly with Nightingale is
built-in flexibility. Our visiting nursing supervisor will
conduct regular assessments of the companion care. If the
client's needs change our nurse will recommend appropriate
action.
In an agency hire situation, Nightingale pays the companion
and remits all the taxes and benefits. It goes without
saying that we are fully insured and bonded.
For live in care a standard weekly fee is charged. This is a
considerable savings over our hourly rate. However, if the
situation changes and the client needs 24-hour awake and
alert care we recommend changing coverage to alternating
12-hour shifts which are charged at an hourly rate.
Hiring a companion directly from us can satisfy a short term
need or become a long term solution. As always, we treat
each case individually and work with the client to determine
exactly how to meet their specific needs. |
